We're currently sailing over the last of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland; in about four hours we'll sail over the continental slope, where the bottom will drop from 500 m down to 3 km. We're not sure the Sea Beam sonar is operating properly, so I have to stay up late to check it against another bottom-sounding sonar. I've been reading "Brokedown Palace", by Steven Brust. It's quite good, but the plot is intuitive instead of logical, making it strange for me to read. Not much else is going on... Bob Pickart (the chief scientist) found out that I know a fair bit of Unix, so he's been handing me shell-script programming jobs. I'm tired of being valued mostly as a programming geek, but the projects are fun anyway. I'm feeling... not really seasick, just sort of off. It's annoying, but I'll deal.
