Snow!! My bunk doesn't have any railings. Which wouldn't be a problem, except that the ship is loaded so it lists slightly to port, and my bed is on the starboard bulkhead. I spent half of last night trying not to roll out. We're currently south of Newfoundland, having crossed the Laurentian channel this afternoon. Most of today was spent making final adjustments to the CTD... replacing a dead battery (which weighs 25 kg), removing some extra weights, etc. We also did some training: we did a test deployment of the CTD and took water samples. There was a fire & boat drill, too. Part of the drill involved pressurizing the firefighting water mains: one of these leaked into the lower lab, soaking some (unplugged) electronics there in salt water. Odd how a drill can generate a real emergency.
