Witches appear in several of the works of Diana Wynne Jones, notably Wilkins' Tooth (Biddy Iremonger), Howl's Moving Castle (the Witch of the Waste et al.), and the Chrestomanci series.

In the Chrestomanci series, "witch" or "warlock" is one of the classifications of magic-user recognised in World 12A of the Related Worlds.

Witchcraft (which is distinct from wizardry, magician's magic, sorcery, and enchanter's magic) is the most basic and least powerful type of magic.

Basic witchcraft requires complicated spells with many steps to achieve something an enchanter could achieve in moments.

The term "witch" is sometimes more loosely used to refer to any female magic-user, although this is technically incorrect usage.

In Witch Week, "witch" is used in World 12Ba of the Related Worlds to refer to any magic user of either sex.
